Haunted Barn is a UK and Sweden-based production company that creates original and captivating stories for television and film. Founded in 2023 by acclaimed screenwriter Peter Harness (Constellation, Young Sherlock, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell) and award-winning stage director Ragna Wei, we're passionate about building worlds that resonate with audiences.

Haunted Barn exists to empower writers and creatives to find pathways through development and into production. We do this both by championing bold ideas and by mentoring and investing in emerging talent; nurturing all of our projects through a collaborative and innovative development process. Our bespoke approach, different for every individual story, uses virtual and in-person writers rooms to inspire, support and enable creatives and reimagines the traditional UK television writing model. We also offer a ‘consulting showrunner’ service, guiding and mentoring fellow writers on external projects.

Ragna is a Norwegian/Swedish director of theatre and works closely with writers on script development for theatre, TV and film. She founded the theatre company Insite in Malmö, Sweden 2007 and ran regional rep company Borås Stadsteater as artistic director 2015-17, before founding Haunted Barn together with Peter Harness.

As a director she works to create immersive and evocative worlds and has directed productions at numerous theatres across Sweden. Recent successes include Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler (Malmö Stadsteater, 2022), and reimagined versions of Jane Eyre (Folkteatern, Gothenburg, 2019) and There’s Never Been a Woman Like Anna Karenina (Orion Theatre, Stockholm; 2023/24; Heidelberg Stückemarkt, Germany & National Touring Company/Riksteatern; 2023) created in collaboration with writer Tone Schunnesson, as well as Monica's Waltz by Klas Abrahamsson (Göteborg Stadsteater, Gothenburg, 2023/24).

Peter is an award-winning English screenwriter, working in film and television. He was the creator and writer of Constellation (Apple TV+, 2024); Guy Ritchie’s Young Sherlock (Amazon Prime, 2025); The War of the Worlds (BBC One, 2019) and Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell (BBC One, 2015).

Since his first broadcast script in 2005 (A View From a Hill in the BBC’s beloved 'A Ghost Story for Christmas' strand), he has created magical, frightening and audacious worlds, focusing on imaginative adaptations of classic tales as well as compelling original work. He was the writer and executive producer of Wallander (BBC One, 2012-15), McMafia (BBC One, 2018, International Emmy Award, Best Series) and Case Histories (BBC One, 2011-13, Scottish BAFTA, Best Series).

He has written episodes of Doctor Who (BBC, 2014-17) and The Crown (Netflix, 2018), as well as a number of theatrical movies, such as his debut feature Is Anybody There? (2008), starring Michael Caine, and Peter Jackson’s Mortal Engines (2018).
